The Back-to-School Carnival

Welcome to my back-to-school carnival. I used this fun opportunity to take a few shots for the blog!

So I've been in school for seven days now and it's already been crazy. I am sorry for my lack of posts, from balancing school (I'm in 5 AP classes this year) to practicing for cross country and track I find myself really busy and it's been hard to make posts recently. But I promise I will be doing some school OOTD's very soon so keep a look out for those. Last night was the back-to-school carnival and if you haven't already noticed something different yet in these pictures... I HAVE A TATTOO! I think it's pretty obvious that it's not real, it's actually a henna tattoo which was one of the booths that we had at our carnival and one of my highlights of my night. Well of course that and being able to have fun with all of my friends. So here is a simple outfit that I put together for this first dance of the school year. This was a fun outfit that I was comfortable dancing and moving around in all day!

  • Denim Jacket- Calvin Klein
  • Flamingo Pocket Tank- Bershka (courtesy of my family in the Philippines, unfortunately we don't have a Bershka here in the U.S)
  • Black Chinos- PacSun
  • Boots- Urban Outfitters
  • Sunglasses: Toms

Trail Following

Hey readers! Sorry I haven't been posting recently, I've just been really busy enjoying my last days of summer and finishing my summer assignments because school is about to start for me! Anyways this is just another look I threw together when I did my first shoot with Miko Aquino. One thing that I thought was pretty funny was we took these photos in a park and there were actual families with children walking up and down the trail while we were taking photos. Everyone who walked by just looked at us funny, maybe they thought we were famous? Haha probably not, they probably thought we were just weird. I guess I should expect that when I am taking pictures in the future but I just found it amusing to think about and just thought it would be fun to share. This is another casual look, something I would probably wear to school or even something outdoors-y if it weren't too hot outside. Quick tip: I've been actually getting into wearing bandanas for some odd reason but I really enjoy using them as something to make my outfit look different. In this post I just folded the bandana up into a strip so I could tie it along my forehead.

  • Chambray Button Down- JCPenney
  • Striped Shirt- Cotton On
  • Shorts- Gap
  • Shoes- Toms
  • Backpack: Herschel Supply & Co.
School is starting next week so I am going to be busy, but I will do my best to continue to update my blog when I can. Glad to hear that people are following my blog and check it for new posts daily! Thanks for all the support!

Aztec Details

When thinking of my first outfit to feature on my blog I wasn't quite sure on where to start. So I just went with a look for a summer day out. Aztec print has always fascinated me with its intricate details and design. I personally think it is just fun to wear and look at it general. The hood and tank top both have a similar print and complement each other very well. This is a very casual look that can be worn both out in nature or in the streets of downtown LA. Quick tip if you aren't wanting to look too casual and want to one up your outfit I recommend throwing on a denim jacket of some sort. If you don't have one, go out and get one because they are definitely worth your investment! They are easy to match with any outfit and tend to give any look a new edge.
  • Denim Jacket- 21 Men
  • Tank top- Cotton On

A New Beginning.

Welcome to my blog!

What is fashion
The first definition from dictionary.com is a prevailing custom or style of dress, etiquette, socializing, etc.
As for me, fashion is an outlet and a way for someone to express themselves. I view it as an art and recently it has been something that I have really been into, but it wasn't always this way...

I started off wearing hand-me downs like many younger siblings do from their older sibling, and that's how I got through elementary school not really caring about what I wore. I remember the day it all changed though, the day when I got my first pair of silver vans. I had to beg my parents to let me get the pair but they finally agreed. These vans were my favorite pair of shoes and I wore them almost everyday for as long as I had them. For once people noticed me and I realized how I dressed was an outlet of how I can express myself. I was a very shy kid in elementary school and these shoes gave me opportunities to talk to people about small things (even if it was about my shoes).
Time progressed and I slowly got more into clothes and fashion and it was something that started to grow and become part of my life. I actually wanted to try a little to match my shirt with a pair of pants and some shoes. Little did I know that people would actually like the clothes I wore and the outfits I put together. Some of my first suggestions to do something was from my mom who told me to get out there because I had "a look", but I always thought it was just one of those things that parents said to help encourage their kids to try something new. Throughout the course of high school I was told more often to put together a blog about the things I wore and the idea sounded absurd to me at first. I could not imagine that people would actually want to read and look at pictures about ME. Recent events have actually changed my mind about that and whether or not this goes anywhere for me I am proud of myself that I am actually starting this blog.
Before I end my first post, I want all my readers to get a little insight of who I am. My name is Nicholas Dy (D-ee) but I also go by nicknames like Nico and Nick. I am seventeen and this August I will be going into my senior year! Today I got to shoot with one of my best friends, Mita, who has been one of my supporters in achieving this start and actually just made her own blog as well (www.lovinglymita.blogspot.com), so go check out her blog! Also special thanks to her brother Miko for taking our pictures today. I am really excited to see what this blog has in store and I hope you are too! If you want to come along on this journey with me, get to know me better, and look at the new stuff I have to post then be sure to check out my blog and other social media as well! A post of today's shoot will be up soon. Thank you!
